A Father's Day Surprise at Pollard Park

When Jessica reached out to me about a Father’s Day gift for her husband, she had the sweetest idea - photos of the boys in custom baseball uniforms, complete with the family’s favorite number.

Baseball is a pretty big part of this family’s life. Between playing, coaching, and even being the team DJ, they don’t spend much time too far from the ball fields. So naturally, a baseball themed Father’s Day session felt like the perfect way to celebrate Dad and the boys.

The original plan was for the photos to be a surprise. There was just one problem… the boys were way too excited to keep the secret.

They wanted Dad to join them.

And honestly, I think that made the session even better.

In perfect baseball fashion, we photographed their session during the dog days of summer at Pollard Park in New Baltimore, Michigan. It was one of those busy summer afternoons where everyone was coming and going, and I actually met up with them while my daughter was at soccer practice at the same park.

Somehow, we squeezed in a little photography between soccer, baseball talk, and the very important discussion of trendy youth baseball gear — including ice cream shorts and ridiculously expensive bats.

These boys are always some of my favorite to photograph. We spend the entire session playing, laughing, and being completely silly, which is exactly why I love photographing them. The best images always happen somewhere in between the posed photos — when they’re running, joking around, or just being themselves.

And that’s what made this Father’s Day session so special. It wasn’t just about creating a gift for Dad. It was about capturing the boys in a little piece of the life they love so much, with the person they were most excited to have there with them.

A pretty perfect Father’s Day surprise… even if they couldn’t quite keep it a secret. ❤️
